Learning Programmes

leraning_programmes_imgAll learners’ programmes are individualised and whilst there are common elements for some, programmes are designed to ensure ‘needs led’ content, learning style and aspirations. Programmes are designed to deliver the targets from the Individual Learning Plan.

Learners can contribute to preferences and choice and work with their Personal Education Tutor and to monitor progress and developments and set targets to maintain personal progress.

Learners receive the support they require, which may vary according to activity and individual need.

Functional Skills

Functional skills are practical skills in English, Maths and ICT that help learners gain the most out of work, education and everyday life. These qualifications have been introduced to address government and employers' concerns over raising standards in basic literacy and numeracy, for learners of all ages, as outlined in the Education and Skills White Paper.

We offer programmes in all three areas.  For those for whom these courses are not suitable, functional skills are embedded in all aspects of their programme and are a key element of the Life and Living Skills Course.

Some learners may additionally access GCSE level courses, some parts which may be delivered in partnership with local tertiary college providers.

In addition to functional skills, we offer a variety of subjects and courses, including:

  • Art
  • Citizenship
  • Design, Technology & Construction
  • Music & Performing Arts
  • Sport & Leisure
  • Personal & Social Development
  • Work Related Learning, Business Administration & Enterprise
  • Life & Living Skills
  • Communication
  • Community Access
  • Catering
  • Land Based Studies & Horticulture

Independent Living Skills

Supporting learners to increase their levels of self-sufficiency and independence underpins all the work of the College. Initial assessments provide a baseline in a range of skills and experiences and enable a personal development plan to be designed and resourced to provide experiences and contexts for progression.

Whatever the aspirations of each learner, challenging and motivating opportunities are created to support progression. Some of these areas include:

  • Communication skills
  • Personal care Skills
  • Keeping Safe
  • Accessing the community
  • Travel and road skills
  • Using money and budgeting
  • Relationships
  • Home management skills
  • Using leisure time
