A major focus of all programmes at St. John's is developing skills towards employability. This could be open employment, supported employment or voluntary work. Opportunities to develop these skills can be delivered in a range of contexts:
- A placement with a local employer
- A placement within our own community Cafe in the Crypt
- Through our own enterprise programmes
- Visits and tasters to places of employment
Learners at the school are supported to access a wide range of vocational opportunities and placements and the College has been developing a range of programmes through the British Association of Supported Employment and the BASE Project.
Additionally, we are currently working with Brighton & Hove's Supported Employment Team to develop further training opportunities for our learners through the development of 'classroom' within local companies. This pioneering development has been partly funded through 'Making It Work'.
