Multi-Sensory

multisensory1We acknowledge the value of Multi-Sensory work with our young people in reducing levels of anxiety and stress and have a number of sensory rooms across the school and college.

We are lucky at the Seaford campus to have an experienced Multi-Sensory Practitioner who has twelve years experience working with children and adolescents who have learning disabilities and associated emotional and behavioral difficulties.

The therapeutic activities she can provide include;

  • Massage
  • Reiki
  • Yoga
  • Relaxation
  • Exploring the 5 senses
  • Music awareness

These different activities have differing specific effects but all share the positive outcomes of;

  • Reduced tension and stress
  • Relaxation of the mind (thereby reducing anxiety)
  • Promotion of self esteem
  • Reduction in blood pressure
  • Pain relief
  • Improved concentration, posture and hand-eye co-ordination
  • Increased cardiovascular efficiency, respiratory efficiency

Young people also benefit from having a safe place that they are able to discuss day to day problems in an informal, caring and non-judgmental environment.

Over a period of time, learners who may initially have issues with physical touch are able, in this uniquely relaxing environment, to overcome their fear and benefit from the positive effects described above.
