Staff Team

Young people continue to be cared for by staff that are experienced, skilled and committed. Care Ofsted 2010

Our care staff are highly committed and experts in their field. Lou Harman, the Care Manager, oversees the department and holds NVQ level 3 in Health & Social Care and levels 3 & 4 in Leadership & Management. She is supported by three Deputy Care Managers, Chris Westwood, Jill Atkins & Ellie Crosthwaite, all of whom hold a minimum of Level 3 or 4 In Health & Social Care. Each of the Deputies takes responsibility for a house.

Each house team consists of a Team Leader, and up to 7 Team Members. Staff turnover is very low and the consistency of the staff team enables the learners to gain trust and build positive, open and honest relationships with their carers.

The team is well qualified with 21 out of the 24 having achieved their NVQ 3 in Health & Social Care with the others working towards their qualifications through our own N.V.Q centre.

Two Night Staff are awake throughout the night in each house to ensure that residents are safe and supported at all hours. There is a Night Staff Team Leader who regularly visits each house at night to ensure that high standards of care and employee support are maintained.

All members of the team attend fortnightly supervision sessions with a more senior member of the team. This allows staff to share good practice and to address any issues that might arise promptly.

The care team meet as a whole regularly and attend training sessions on a frequent basis. This allows an excellent standard of professional development and mutual support and ensures that any identified problems or training needs can be addressed swiftly.

Any concerns, issues or complaints that are identified by parents/carers, the Independent Visitors or during monitoring visits can also be dealt with via the weekly meeting, supervision and training schedule. A robust complaints system is in operation which is well publicised in the houses and statement of purpose.

Staff receive excellent training opportunities. The training needs of each member of care staff is assessed and incorporated into robust training schedules. The number of staff who have received the required qualification in care exceeds the national minimum standard. Care Ofsted 2010

Recent training has included, Report and Incident Writing, Introduction to Autistic Spectrum Disorders, Sexual Health Update, Drugs and Alcohol Awareness and Fire Safety.

The recruitment of staff is completed comprehensively and safely. Care Ofsted 2010

All members of staff are recruited using robust safeguarding procedures. (To find out more about these click here – link to 'Work with Us' section of the website).

The approach towards keeping young people as safe as possible from the risks of harm is excellent. Safeguarding procedures are clearly known by all staff with relevant training provided on a regular basis. Care Ofsted 2010
