Below is a brief summary of the most recent National Care Standards Report:

Residential Special Schools are subject to inspection by the Commission for Social Care Inspection to determine whether the welfare of children, those under the age of 18, is adequately safeguarded and promoted while they are accomodated by the school.

Summary of Inspection findings:

  • Relationships between staff and pupils are warm and professional
  • A wide range of activities is provided for the pupils
  • Responses to negative behaviour are considered and child-centred.
  • Staff monitor their own performance, in addition to the Standard 33 management overview.
  • A rolling programme of training is provided for staff amounting to 12 days each year.
  • Pupils receive good individual support from a committed and enthusiastic team of care staff, educationalists and therapists.
