THE SCHOOL

For learners aged ten to nineteen, St. John’s aim is to empower individuals to develop into independent adults who are equipped with the communication and life skills to lead the life of their choice. Each learner will have their own class tutor and keyworker as well as the support from a team of Medical Therapy Staff ( which includes nurses, occupational therapists, speech and language therapists, behaviour support and a counsellor), who work together to help each individual achieve their aspirations. Each learner will have an individualised curriculum that will include a range of accredited courses to suit their abilities. Everything is done to empower individuals to achieve their full potential in a warm, friendly and nurturing environment.

St. John’s School in Seaford has all the specialist classrooms expected in any school, with carefully planned classroom environments designed specifically for each student’s needs. In addition, there is a large indoor heated swimming pool and a very well equipped Youth Club space, providing modern equipment and games to entertain at social times of the day. The school is surrounded by large playing fields. This provides space to explore, and the horticultural areas include poly-tunnels used for Land Based Studies.

The school comes together every week to celebrate achievements and the learners meet each half term as a student council to raise concerns and discuss issues learners have about the school. We have amazing creative days and fun/sports days, with the highlight for some of our learners being the dramatic productions performed by the learners themselves.
