The needs of our post-19 resident learners range from those who require assistance to carry out basic daily tasks, such as washing and dressing, to those who are totally independent and only require staff to continue to support them with regard to their behaviour and the more taxing tasks such as budgeting and the essential skills needed for independent living. All residential groups are arranged based on assessed need and compatibility, rather than ability or disability.
All learners in the residential homes are able to use the College and School grounds and facilities for enrichment activities.
Learners are encouraged to personalise their rooms with pictures/posters and personal belongings and where necessary are supported in doing this.
There are four houses in the post-19 service:
Pier View House is located on the main College site and has 4 bedrooms, 1 of which is en-suite. The other 3 learners share a bathroom. The house is newly refurbished and offers a good sized kitchen, dining room and lounge. There is a separate laundry room. All learners who reside at Pier View House are female.
Preston Drove is situated near Preston Park, close to local shops and amenities. It is a large spacious house, offering residential provision for 5 male learners. The house has 5 bedrooms,3 bathrooms, a communal lounge, separate computer room/study area, a dining room and a large kitchen, all located over 4 floors. There are good bus routes to the town centre and college campus.
Preston Road has capacity for 8 young people and is similar in style to Borradaile house, this property offers 6 bedrooms in the main house and a 2 bedroom flat which offers a stepping stone into semi independent living. This property is close to local shops and amenities as well being a stones throw from Preston Park which offers a number of different activities and events on a regular basis. Preston Road is also ideally situated with regard to bus routes for all areas of Brighton, the main college campus and other residential houses.
College View is located within the college grounds and is a purpose built facility.
It has 9 bedrooms. 8 bedrooms are on the first floor and 1 is on the ground floor. The ground floor bedroom also has its own lounge/living area and bathroom. There are 2 shared bathrooms and 2 shared shower rooms within the rest of the house. The house has been recently refurbished to ensure it meets the needs of learners. It offers a large kitchen diner, computer room, laundry room, a large garden area with decking and a large communal lounge.
Because of its proximity to the college, College View is well suited to learners who would struggle with the transition/travel from an off-site home.
Borradaile house is located within the college grounds. The building is situated on Walpole Road itself and backs onto the college.
Borradaile has 6 bedrooms all with en-suite shower rooms and toilets. In addition there is self-contained 2 bedroom flat, which has its own lounge & kitchen diner & bathroom. It provides the stepping stone for individuals to experience the reality of living semi independently whilst having the full support of a staff team.
The house has been recently refurbished and offers a good sized garden, communal kitchen diner, laundry, lounge, staff office and a quiet study room.
Because of its proximity to the college, Borradaile is well suited to learners who would struggle with the transition/travel from an off-site home.
Cornerways is situated close to the Seven Dials area of Hove. It has good public transport links to the town centre and the college site. It is also within 20 minutes walk of Brighton railway station.
Cornerways has 8 bedrooms, all with en-suite shower rooms and toilets. The property also offers 2 flats within the house, to provide the stepping stone for individuals to experience the reality of living semi independently whilst having the full support of a staff team. The house offers a decked garden area, communal lounge, large dining room, kitchen, laundry room and office.
Cornerways is suited to learners who are able to travel successfully either on public transport or in the house vehicle in order to get to College.
Framfield is a large house in Seaford, approximately 1 mile from the School site in Firle Road. Framfield is near to the bus stop for the buses to Brighton and also has the use of a vehicle for accessing the college and community resources.
There are 9 bedrooms, with 1 remaining free for assessments. Framfield is a 3 storey building with good sized bedrooms on each floor. There is also a large garden area which circulates the house, shared bathroom facilities on each floor, a large kitchen, two communal lounges, computer room and laundry.
The only criteria for living at Framfield is that Learners are able to travel successfully either on public transport or in the house vehicle in order to get to College.
