We will be working in partnership with Amazon, DFN Project SEARCH, and local authorities to launch an exciting new Supported Internships programme from September 2026.
This study programme is for young people aged 18–25 who have an Education, Health and Care (EHC) plan and want to move into paid employment with extra support.
Interns are based at the Amazon site in Crawley, West Sussex, five days a week, taking part in workplace rotations, learning through feedback, and building the skills and confidence needed for adulthood and employment. This is supported by specialist staff from St. John’s College.
Where you could work
At Amazon, interns work towards learning the Level 1 Amazon Associate role, gaining experience in the Crawley delivery station.
Through their workplace rotations, interns take part in tasks such as:
-
sorting, scanning, and preparing orders using technologies like smartphones, and handheld devices
-
loading, lifting, sorting, staging different parcels throughout the warehouse.
-
maintain safety within the warehouse using communication and observational skills as well as training skills developed on the programme.
This hands-on training helps interns build the skills, knowledge, and confidence needed to progress into employment at Amazon or other workplaces in the future.
What you will learn
Interns take part in a programme of learning that combines classroom teaching with real workplace experience. Lessons are led by a teacher and supported by job coaches.
Interns develop:
-
employability skills such as teamwork, communication, and time management
-
English and maths, embedded in workplace tasks
-
personal and social skills, including independence and confidence
-
job-specific skills linked to the Amazon Associate role.
This mix of classroom learning and practical experience gives interns the tools they need to move confidently into adult life and work.
What happens after the programme?
Many interns move into paid work after completing the programme. Some progress into jobs at Amazon as Level 1 Associates, while others use the skills, confidence, and experience they have gained to find employment in the wider community.
