Curriculum

At St John’s College, our curriculum intent is to prepare learners for life after college through teaching them the skills and knowledge they need to be more independent adults who have a good quality of life.

We provide several destination-led courses that are all framed around the four preparing for adulthood pathways:

  • Independent living

  • Community participation, friendships and relationships

  • Good health and wellbeing

  • Employability

Tommy’s story: learning new skills for adulthood at St. John’s College in Brighton

The college works with learners to develop independence skills to prepare them for adulthood. Hear Tommy's story:

Our courses are ‘weighted’ in line with learners planned destinations. This means that the sessions are timetabled both in terms of content and number to ensure that learners are given the knowledge and skills they need to meet their post-college aspirations. So, if a learner aspires to have a job after college, then they will be on a course that has more employability focused sessions than the courses for learners who don’t share that goal.
